Tony,
I have been a Christian believer for about 25 years. I was baptized at the age of 9 and since then I have invested much time, talent, and treasure to the cause of Christ and furthering His kingdom on Earth. I have enjoyed of love and fellowship of this body of believers. I seek God daily to help me live a life of integrity and righteousness.
I also happen to be homosexual. I don’t ever recall making a conscious choice to be gay. Therefore, I don’t see this as a moral or sin issue. Neither is it a “lifestyle”, “behavior” or “choice” as suggested by many. Homosexuality is the romantic and sexual attraction for someone of the same gender. Most experts and research contend that it is biologically determined. I would liken the phenomena of homosexuality to being left-handed. Just as heterosexuals can live a myriad of lifestyles and behave in various ways, homosexuals also live a variety of lifestyles. There are homosexuals who are single; others who are involved in loving, committed, and monogamous relationships with a partner, and there even some who are involved in married heterosexual relationships with or without children. And yes, there are some homosexuals who lead irresponsible and promiscuous lifestyles, just as some heterosexuals do.
I have asked God to "change" my sexual orientation and have even been involved in so-called "ex-gay" groups and reparative therapy. But as I have learned in recent years, there are certain things that cannot be changed. What really matters is the condition of our heart and whether or not it is centered upon loving/serving God and neighbor, irregardless of our race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation.
