I loved your book. As a christian I know that prayer has the power to heal and to change lives. If one were to think of homosexuality as evil and sinful I guess you would want your son to change and you would pray for that son. But your parents went beyond praying for you to change and they used prayer as a weapon of hurt. I didn't see any good coming out of the letters they sent you. If you're going to pray for someone you should at the very least listen to them, but your parents didn't. They didn't even read the (very good) book you gave them or listen to a word you said. Without empathy you can't have prayer. Homosexuality is so misunderstand by the church because all it sees are its own stereotypical images and a few verses which they take out of context. I'm gay; I've been out to myself for only about 3 months. I've been out to friends for only a few weeks. I haven't yet told my parents. They aren't christians, but I'm still scared. If nothing else, you're book gives me a little bit of courage. I've started attending a welcoming church and I know God accepts me for who I am. I thank you for your book. I don't know how my coming out story is going to read, but as it unfolds in these next few months, it's good to know I'm not alone. Thank you.
