My father is a Southern Baptist minister in Tennessee and rabidly anti-gay. I can relate to your story. When my mother died, the minister selected for the funeral by my father spent the whole service trying to convert me to Baptist fundamentalism. I was angry, hearthbroken, and embarrassed for my mother. I am trapped in a small Tennessee town with no viable way out. It is pure hell. I refuse to remain silent in the teeth of these moronic fundamentalists. Consequently, I have been shot at, beaten up by the police several times, bashed any number of times. People who don't know the small town South and how vicious people can be who they deem to be traitors to the Southern way of life don't know how we suffer. Most of the cliches about the South are true.
