I just thought I'd add my two cents to the message index here. I am a gay Christian, living in the state of Kentucky. So I have some relation to the whole southern-Christian attitude to homosexuality. Although I must say, my whole life I have been blessed with only people who show love and compassion for me. I do believe that homosexual relations are wrong, as it says this in the Bible. But I think so many people miss the MAIN point of the Bible. We find our salvation through Jesus Christ, not through our own good works. So many Christians are obsessed with cleansing their flesh; I mean doing good works and trying to be the best human they can be. But that is not what matters. As Christians, we go through struggles to make us find the Lord, and it is only through HIM that we may find salvation. It is not through our attempt to cleanse our flesh. Those who do this might as well slap Jesus in the face and say, "Your sacrifice wasn't good enough." Yes, I can understand where people still want to strive and be the best person they can be. But too many people get caught up in that, and lose sight of the only way to salvation: Through Jesus Christ only...not through our good works or our attempt to be the best person we can be. Once you have accepted Christ into your life, it changes you immensely. And living your life day-to-day and knowing the truth GREATLY influences your decisions. It is only through Christ that we become cleansed.
I would also like to commend Mr. Miller for his book. I have a cousin who has gone through similar situations, and he unfortunately has succumbed to the brainwashing of his fundamentalist Christian father, and is now attempting to "cleanse his flesh" by living a straight life. Of course, I have no room to talk. I do not know if he was originally living a lie by being gay (which is what he has told me he was doing...but this I can not understand), or if he is now attempting to be a person who he thinks he must be, at an attempt to be a good person. I can say one thing, it is one confusing mess. To this day, my relationship with my cousin is in a strange state.
I am glad that Mr. Miller told me about this website. I am thoroughly impressed. Much luck and many blessings in your future endeavors Stuart!
God Bless you all,
Michael
